Students warned over bank account phishing scams
21 September 2010
“Students have a lot to cope with at this time and they are particularly vulnerable to emails from official sounding bodies asking for information. However, the usual rules apply – never reveal your bank details or card information by clicking on a link in any email. Always open the browser and type in the name of the organisation, and login as usual from a trusted machine. Any parents looking to ensure their children get a good start at university would also be strongly advised to invest in commercial internet security software as this can now detect many scams such as this.”
