NCC Group’s Tim Rawlins on BBC Business Today: How to survive and thrive in the face of increased supply chain attacks

23 September 2025

Tim Rawlins, Senior Adviser at NCC Group, appeared on BBC News today to discuss the growing threat of cyber attacks targeting supply chains, following the recent high-profile incidents involving the retail and transport sectors.

Speaking on BBC Business Today, Tim covered:

  • The latest in a long line of high-profile cyber-attacks, underscoring the increasing frequency and sophistication of these threats
  • What businesses can do to protect themselves, especially in complex supply chain ecosystems

Tim emphasised that while cyber attacks can be devastating, organisations must be prepared not only to survive such incidents but to thrive in their aftermath.

He stressed that the nature of modern supply chains, interconnected, global, and reliant on third-party vendors, heightens the risk. “A business is only as strong as its weakest link,” Tim warned, urging companies to continuously assess and secure their third-party suppliers, both during onboarding and throughout the partnership lifecycle.

On supply chain resilience, Tim comments: “Supply chains are proving to be a huge vulnerability for an organisation’s cyber security posture, so leaders must look beyond their internal measures. A business is only as secure as its weakest link, but how many can pinpoint that in their supply chain?

“Whether a household name or an independent retailer, every organisation needs to assume they will be the next victim. Taking the time and investing in cyber resilience as a priority is the only way to survive and thrive following attacks.”
