The customer approached NCC Group to review and enhance the mitigation service rules that it had in place during a live test. Testing its services allowed the customer to improve the configuration of its mitigation rules as well as provided them with the assurance that their internal teams and external mitigation providers could work together during an incident.
Solution
NCC Group was enlisted by the financial services organization to provide a simulated DDoS Application Layer test for the group. The test was conducted over a 3.5-hour window and utilized 2,000 bots to produce approximately 800,000 requests per second during this period.
Testing in this way allowed the financial services group to tune the mitigation configurations of its environment, as well as put its playbook into practice in a controlled and managed environment. It also allowed the group to ensure that its service level agreements were being met, allowing them to improve the overall value of its mitigation service in the process.
Result
By conducting the DDoS test in this way, NCC Group was able to advise the organization on the most effective ways to improve and streamline its existing processes. This also enabled the organization to ensure that proper training and planning were implemented across its people.
The test also provided the organization with assurance that its mitigation capabilities were up to the task in the event of a live attack.
