Ransomware attacks continue to decline in May and Safepay emerges as top threat actor
- Global ransomware attacks decreased by 6% in May, with 393 attacks
- Safepay was the most active threat group, responsible for 18% of attacks
- Industrials remains the most targeted sector with 30% of attacks
- 79% of all cases globally took place in North America and Europe
May 2025 – Ransomware attacks fell by 6% in May, with 393 cases.
This was the third consecutive month in which ransomware attacks dropped, following a record-breaking start to the year.
Despite the decline in numbers, geopolitical tensions and high-profile cyber attacks highlight growing instability, potentially heightening the risk of cyber threats.
